Microsoft Ignite represents the company’s yearly gathering for developers and IT experts where the latest updates on Copilot, Windows, Microsoft 365, and Azure are shared, affecting many of Microsoft’s largest clients. The spotlight at Microsoft Ignite 2023 was on AI, a trend that is set to continue this year.

The Verge will report on all updates from Microsoft Ignite. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is set to commence the primary keynote at 9 AM ET / 6 AM PT on November 19th. The address will be available via livestream on Microsoft’s website and will be followed by various sessions and in-depth analyses of key announcements from the event.

    Microsoft is developing a new companion feature for the Windows 11 taskbar that will make crucial information accessible with a single click. Microsoft 365 Companions will feature contacts, files, or calendar events seamlessly integrated into the Windows 11 taskbar.

    “We are bringing Microsoft 365 People, Files, and Calendar to your taskbar, providing you with easy access to your Graph data,” stated Windows leader Pavan Davuluri on stage during Microsoft Ignite 2024 today.

  • The icon for the Microsoft 365 app is being updated for some unknown reason.

    Microsoft’s leader for Experiences & Devices, Rajesh Jha, recently announced a curious modification to Microsoft 365 at Ignite.

    “In the coming months, we will transition the Microsoft 365 app icon to match the new Microsoft 365 Copilot design,” Jha explained. This new icon will replicate the Copilot design, replacing the current blue and purple Microsoft 365 icon. Microsoft has been facing challenges with its Copilot branding lately.

  • Windows in mixed reality set to launch for Meta Quest 3 headsets in December.

    Meta has been enhancing the Windows VR experience with its Quest headsets recently, and Microsoft has announced that full Windows 11 functionalities will be accessible to the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S starting in December. Users will have the capability to create a large, multi-monitor workspace using Quest 3 headsets in public preview next month.

    Details on the availability of Windows Volumetric Apps are still awaited.

    Microsoft is launching an in-person hacking event, named Zero Day Quest, which it claims will be the largest of its type. This event aims to expand upon Microsoft’s existing bug bounty program and encourage investigations into critical security vulnerabilities that could impact the software supporting cloud and AI operations.

    “This new hacking challenge will be the largest of its kind, with an extra $4 million in potential prizes for research aimed at critical areas, specifically cloud and AI,” said Tom Gallagher, VP of engineering at Microsoft’s security response team. “Zero Day Quest offers fresh opportunities for the security community to collaborate with Microsoft engineers and security researchers, uniting top security experts to exchange ideas, learn, and foster community while enhancing safety for everyone.”

    The Link device is crafted to be a compact, fanless, and user-friendly cloud PC compatible with local monitors and peripherals. It is intended to perfectly complement Microsoft’s Windows 365 service, which enables businesses to transition employees to cloud-based virtual machines that can be accessed securely from multiple devices.
